Researchers exploring the ancient Mayan city of Tikal have discovered landscaping and engineering feats, including a dam which would have held about 20 million gallons of water in a man-made reservoir.
Excavations done by a multi-university team led by the University of Cincinnati focus on Tikal, which was an important Mayan city from the 2nd to 10th centuries. Located in northern Guatemala, the city was home to upwards of 80,000 inhabitants.
